Polygon zkEVM has officially announced a major protocol upgrade scheduled for November 23. This crucial update marks a significant facelift for the protocol as it progresses towards enhancing its capabilities.
Polygon zkEVM Mainnet Beta Update
The Polygon zkEVM Mainnet Beta update is currently underway. In anticipation of this advancement, the network has released key information for users within its ecosystem.
Polygon zkEVM Upgrade Schedule
According to the layer-2 protocol, the upgrade of Polygon zkEVM Mainnet Beta infrastructure is set to take place on November 23 at 13:00 UTC. The process is expected to conclude within 30 minutes. Importantly, there will be no interruption of activities on the Polygon network during this time, except for a brief restart period of approximately 2 minutes once the update is completed.
No action is required from end users before or after the upgrade, similar to previous notable upgrades. Changes made to the Polygon zkEVM that impact users are non-existent. However, developers are required to upgrade their node, prover, and bridge to the latest versions to fully utilize the network’s potential and continue building Decentralized Applications (DApps) on the Ethereum blockchain.
Key Features of the Upgrade
The upcoming update represents a pivotal move for the Polygon zkEVM, introducing several significant changes and features. These changes will play crucial roles in the zkEVM node, bridge, and prover infrastructure, encompassing modifications to RPC, sequencer, synchronizer, and databases. Additionally, Websocket improvements are included in this update.
Impressive Upgrade Pathway for zkEVM
The Polygon zkEVM Beta version was initially released earlier this year following a funding round of $1 billion, two third-party audits, and an internal audit involving 26 researchers. Sandeep Nailwal, Polygon’s co-founder, highlighted how zkEVM brings an extra level of innovation to DApps deployment.
“With zkEVM, you will be able to deploy any Ethereum application without any modifications, using existing Ethereum developer tools like Remix, and interact with the network using standard wallets like Metamask,” he said.
Since the initial release, the Layer-2 scaling solution has seen various upgrades. In April, Polygon announced the addition of the Polygon PoS Bridge to the Polygon zkEVM. Notably, the network has also integrated with other projects.
Market Response
In response to the zkEVM update announcement, Polygon’s native token MATIC has experienced a 3.44% spike and is currently trading at $0.7782 at the time of writing.
