Introducing Project Spotlight: an initiative to highlight and get to know the Dapps on Polygon a little better!

Our fourth project in this series is Neon District: a free-to-play cyberpunk role-playing game from Blockade Games.

With more than 3000+ daily active players and a highly interactive gaming experience, players can collect characters and gear, craft and level up fully-equipped teams, and battle their teams against other players through the Neon Pizza competitive multiplayer missions or in real-time turn-based combat.

Can you introduce us to the awesome team building Neon District?

Neon District is the flagship title developed by Blockade Games, a team of game developers, artists, and innovators whose central ethos is inclusivity, experimentation, and creativity. Neon District is the brainchild of cryptoartist pioneer and CEO, Marguerite deCourcelle aka @coin_artist, founded in collaboration with lead artist Diego Rodriguez (@dhtenshi) and CTO Ben Heidorn (@cybourgeoisie).

On the team behind Neon District, art director Kyle Chivers leads the art team of technical artist Diego Martinez, concept and environmental artist Hardy Fowler, UI designer Marina Giardinieri, UX designer James Newton, and character artist Tatiana Yamshanova. On the game development side, Kyle and Ben work alongside senior game designer Brian Hacker and software engineer Adam Gibbons. Also on the team as active advisors and designers are senior game designer Dave Smith and executive producer Christopher Chapman.

Further, the Neon District team includes community managers JTobcat and Miezekatze and community artist YuurinBee.

Please tell us a little about Neon District and its blockchain based RPG experience.

Neon District is building a cyberpunk metaverse of characters and villains, driven primarily by players forming factions and syndicates. The ND universe has years of storyline and missions lined up, and will showcase competitive player-versus-player combat.

Players can start earning NFTs without any previous blockchain experience or owning any cryptocurrency. By playing Neon District, players can earn and level up rare, valuable assets and trade them with friends around the globe.

Why did you guys choose Polygon for scaling?

Polygon has low fees, high throughput, and one-to-one compatibility with our smart contracts and Ethereum-based toolset. Migrating our games and products to Polygon has been nearly seamless, and the team is exceptionally responsive and professional.

What got your team into Blockchain and Crypto?

Blockchain is a ground-breaking technology that makes it possible for everyone, including game developers, artists, and musicians, to build real digital scarcity and trustless value baked into the fabric of the Internet. It’s perfect for constructing a decentralized, trustless metaverse without borders.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself!

The CEO, Marguerite DeCourcelle, is the inventor of cryptopuzzles and collaborated with co-founder Diego Rodriguez on numerous puzzles in 2016 and 2017. The CTO, Ben Heidorn, solved one such cryptopuzzle by Zd3n in 2017, which led to the team meeting up and forming Blockade Games.
